Ludovic 'Ludo' Forrer - Events Coordinator & Information Systems

Ludo was born and educated in Brighton. He went to Kingston University to read for a BEng in Aerospace Engineering in 1999 and in the summer break of 2000, he completed his PPL in California.

On graduating Ludo joined a Graduate Development Scheme at Messier-Dowty in Cheltenham, which included a period working for their A380 design team in Paris. He subsequently worked as a Design Engineer on A330/340, A350, B787 and various other aircraft landing gears.

Mid-2006 he joined the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) department of Thales Avionics, South-West London. As an ILS Project Manager since early-2007, he was responsible for various ILS programmes, primarily Future Lynx, until leaving to study for his ATPL full-time in August 2008.

He joined the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) Young Members Board (YMB) in 2002 and has represented RAeS Young Members on various boards and committees. He held the role of YMB Vice-Chair in 2006 and YMB Chairman from 2007 to February 2008. He was elected as a Council member and Trustee of the RAeS in April 2008. Ludo joined the Guild in 2002 as an Associate and was elected Freeman in 2007. As a founder member of the GYM, Ludo is looking forward to helping to develop the group into a thriving and lively part of the Guild.

Having completed ATPL ground studies in early September 2008, he is currently undergoing flying training for the CPL and ME/IR (with some help from a Thales UK Air League Flying Bursary) and is hoping to start looking for a right-hand seat at the end of the year, something he is very excited about!

We asked Ludo about his most memorable flight to-date... “It was a successful diversion to Van Nuys at night - due to unexpected weather at the destination” he says. “It followed a huge steak with friends at a tiny airstrip’s restaurant in the middle of nowhere, en route from San Francisco to Long Beach!”
